Speak the Speech: Directors’ Cuts

  • New Mexico Museum of Art • St. Francis Auditorium 107 West Palace Avenue Santa Fe, NM, 87501 United States (map)

The ISC invited local directors of Shakespeare to come together to showcase their talent and that of our local actors—from the very young to the highly experienced—in a FREE performance called Speak the Speech: Directors’ Cuts. Each director has chosen a ten-minute segment of Shakespeare's text to present, with a focus on the language.

This promises to be a fast-paced and engaging event for all!

Speak the speech, I pray you,
as I pronounc’d it to you,
trippingly on the tongue.
But if you mouth it, as many of our players do,
I had as lief the town crier spoke my lines.
Nor do not saw the air too much with your hand,
thus, but use all gently;
for in the very torrent, tempest, and
(as I may say) whirlwind of your passion,
you must acquire and beget a temperance
that may give it smoothness.
