ISC’s King Lear

Don’t miss the culmination of the International Shakespeare Center’s Year of Lear.

Shakespeare’s profound and complex play explores the nature of power—in family, politics, and nature.

Please see the review by Mark Dunn, who calls this show, “the best theater offering of the year.”

The 24-member cast, featuring Paul Walsky, Lynn Goodwin, Marty Madden, Glenna Hill, Marc Lynch, Ariana Karp, Noah Segard, Ambrose Ferber, Geoffrey Pomeroy, Alex Reid, Mairi Chanel, and newcomer Clara West, have been working together since last September.

The cast began with almost six months of close-reading the play. The ISC provided the actors a master workshop with Rodney Cottier, Director and Head of Drama at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. WE also brought out Edward Daranyi from the Stratford Shakespeare Festival who provided another master class. Ariana Karp, director and member of Ducdame Ensemble, provided a Laban movement workshop. Robin Williams worked directly with each actor on speaking the speech in Shakespeare’s iambic pentameter. Caryl Farkas leads the actors through character scenes to discover various interpretations, and she is now directing the rehearsals. Meet the cast here.

Join us after the last show for a King Lear Closing Celebration to honor and appreciate the production at The Mermaid Tavern—champagne, hors d’oeuvres, meet the cast and crew! $30; tickets available at the link above-left. Please join us!
